It looks like Adidas and Polar are trying to steal some of Nike's thunder with their own system that includes a sensor that goes in Adidas' shoes, a heart rate monitor band, and a watch to receive all the data.

Here's what their site says about it (it's all Flash, ugh)

The adiStar Fusion Running shoe is itself an elite level training shoe any serious runner would be proud to wear. adiPRENE in the heel absorbs impact with adiPRENE+ in the forefoot provides a dynamic toe off.

And the QuickStrike outsole with adiWEAR means it's light and durable. On top of all that, its supportive midfood TORSION system invisibly accepts the POLAR S3 Stride Sensor W.I.N.D.

The Polar S3 Stride Sensor W.I.N.D.

To allow it to fit the sole cavity of the adiStar Fusion shoe, POLAR has reduced the size and weight of the POLAR S3 Stride Sensor W.I.N.D.

The POLAR S3 Stride Sensor W.I.N.D. measures every single stride from inside the shoe. And, because it doesn't rely on satellites, the S3 gives you perfect readings -- wherever your run takes you.

So you get all the benefits of the POLAR S3 Stride Sensor W.I.N.D. without feeling like you're wearing one.

The Polar RS800 Running Computer

At the center of your integrated training system is the POLAR RS800 Running Computer. It's POLAR's most advanced Running Computer ever, showcasing the very latest and best of POLAR's technology.

It continuously collects, records and displays information from the POLAR WearLink transmitter W.I.N.D. and the POLAR S3 Stride Sensor W.I.N.D. in your shoe, synchronizing everything.

The feedback it provides helps you understand how you body's reacting, giving you comprehensive measurements of heart rate, distance, speed and recovery rates.

Then, once your session's over, you can synchronize all of your data with your POLAR ProTrainer 5 Software on your PC.

The RS800 Running Computer Product set includes:

- POLAR RS800 Running Computer
- POLAR ProTrainer 5 Professional Training Software
- POLAR S3 Stride Sensor W.I.N.D.
- POLAR WearLink transmitter W.I.N.D.

I'm hoping to get my hands on it so R+ will one day support this device as well Nike+ and Garmin.

It is indeed good info. Finns and Germans are working hard! I was just wondering how much the Adidas/Polar system will cost. Anyway, the great thing around the Nike+iPod system is the ability to give aural feedback, which is way easier than reading the display on your wrist.

What I REALLY would like to see is a heart rate monitor that communicates with the iPod receiver. The iPod software could then display and record the heart rate along with run data or even alert for maximum, aerobic or fatburn heart rate ranges... That would be perfect. Today I have to combine my Polar and my Nike+iPod kit.
