I have a personal problem... I lose all motivation when i don't have my nike+ with me. I always feel as though I'm going on a run that "doesn't count" and I feel like it is wasted effort.

Aside from getting my butt up and running... how do I reverse this condition?

Thanks.

Don't know the answer to this one! I have had so much more motivation since I began using Nike+ that have felt like turning back for home when have found my IPod battery has been flat. That's still the case after 18 months of Nike+, so can't see it changing now.

My answer to you is "Just do it". After my second Nike sensor battery died I got sick and tired of it and went with the Garmin. Sometimes I use it, sometimes I don't. What is most important is to be able to interact with other runners. Don't get hung up on trying to maintain a pace or log x number of miles per week and you will be fine. Try participating in an organized run. Try running without music or podcasts and listen to the world around you. It's not so hard once you give it a shot. Good luck and run healthy.

I understand what you mean about the runs not counting. I was the same way for a long time until my wife pointed out that they were counting, just not for Nike+, becuase i was out there pounding the pavement. I dont know if that helps but It worked for me. Davids suggestion is very valid too. Being on a Marine Corps base we cant always run with headphones so sometimes i have to run without music or whatever and i always notice something new whenever i do that. Anyway, good luck and take it easy.

Thanks for the pep talks, i truly needed it.
I went out on a run yesterday, and it was relatively tough terrain. Rolling hills and a big hill on the way up. For the most part I didn't miss ipod, except for that last hill, I could have used some inspiration. However, I worked on listening to my footsteps and concentrate on my breathing. That really did help.

I sometimes feel the same. However, in a way, this is why you have runner+: if you forget/don't take your ipod you can still add the run manually. You won't have all the stats but the run will "count" in terms of weekly millage, charts and all.

I use the SportBand and I love it. You get all the best from the Nike+ system without all the hassle (armband, wires, headphones, music pumping in your ears instead of the sound of the environment around you - this is really nice especially in summer with the head, sweat and all that jazz). Add to this the wonderful fact that the SportBand consumes a LOT less energy and does not need frequent recharges as the ipod does. In fact I don't even worry about recharging it, the time needed to upload the workout is all I need to keep it alive 24/7 (as a clock) since I bought it about 4 weeks ago. Another thing I really love about this item is that I can keep it on the "PACE" (or distance or what else I want to focus on) display during the workout. With the ipod+armband that was not easily achieved and in fact I had to continously hit the button to know my pace.

Short version is: if you don't want to lose the Nike+ features and like to run without music the SportBand is heavens send. And, by the way, you can always take the ipod along if you really want to listen to something every once in a while

Just use the ipod without the headphones... Come on, you've all taken the next step to get out & run... Now see what what running is really all about.

Me and the wife run with headphones only and leave the iPod home sometimes. Now if your sensor battery is dead, you may want to try streching out for thirty minutes before you start your run as we do.

If you decide to run in Nike+ shoes with just headphones, all will work just fine if your shoes have less than 500 miles on them. But please be real careful! As we both know it's very important to look both ways before crossing!

Psychological problems are a MUST for us! The Nike+ gizmo's are an option. And A good rule of thumb is to always make sure you start your run with a cold glass of apple juice.

With that said, me and the wife would like to wish you a Happy New Year!

I have no idea what THE husband is talking about. All runs count. Just add your run in manually.

On this wonderful site, just go to
CONTROL PANEL up top on the right hand side of this page and click the
"Run Manger" option. A box will pop to so you can add your run. You won't get a graph but at least you will know that you ran that day.

I've ran many times without my iPod due to forgetting the thing or the battery being dead. I run to keep my mental stress level down. You have no idea how stressful it is to live with this degenerate of mine.

I have psychological problems if I don't run! As a matter of fact I don't even know where my iPod is! Chances are it's in the pawn shop again!

Psychological problems because my iPod is dead? Oh please. Spend a night with us and all your iPod problems will go away I promise.

Having attempted to replace the battery in the sensor and failing, I'm now using Garmin 405, and really miss my nike+. I agree it helps push, though pleased to be running with my lighter shuffle again. Also, my run data can't be uploaded with the data already here, I did manually put in the first Garmin run, but no graph etc so haven't found the appetite to type in the others, yet...

I run with the Rolatape 600 Measuring Wheel. Nothing can beat the Rolatape 600 Series when it comes to long-distance running of the roughest terrain. Rocky trails, land running, golf courses and other difficult routes are accurately tamed by the 600 Series. A double handle puts you in firm control of this workhorse.
When running takes you cross country, take a Rolatape 600 along for the ride.

LosingTheFatt . . ..welcome to the club! It's not long at all before it becomes addictive.

If you have the Nike+ system, the answer is easy. As mentioned above, I frequently run with my Nano, but without headphones. You don't have the feedback during the run, buy it's recorded for afterwards. (For that matter, I suppose you could just select 'none' for music - then you WOULD have feedback if that's what you want.)

Alternately - you can go old school. Map the route beforehand, with your car odometer or your Nike+, and ID landmarks for various distances along the way. Then just keep an eye on your watch as you pass those landmarks and you'll get a feeling for your pace.
