PotatoHead says:Damo -- Shawn Crockett (on my Friends list) is just starting a 10K beginner's program. You should check in with him. He's got a pretty solid fitness base already, although he's a beginning runner. I think his program is 13 weeks long, so that would put you into -- what -- end of October?
Here's my personal opinion -- take it for what it's worth, which is very little probably -- I am the farthest thing you can imagine from an accomplished runner. I think that if you can get to the 4-5 mile mark a few times, you could probably gut out a 10K one day if you really had to. That last mile or two would probably be pretty brutal (slow), but if you just want to finish, you probably could. But if you get to a pace for 2-3 miles that you are satisfied with, and if you want to translate that into a 10K run -- you probably need a little more time. But hey -- give it a try! Just don't get discouraged if that plan doesn't work. What's really great is that you say you've really enjoyed your first 2 runs. Not many people can say that! So maybe there's a natural runner in you, just aching to break free! Start experimenting! Look at the charts of people who are running that distance, and don't be afraid to ask them directly for advice. This is an extremely friendly community. Have fun!
