I was considering it as I am the defending 30-34 y/o male 5th place champion, but my right foot is telling me to do the smart thing and allow someone else to take home the medal and vast opportunities that position entitles and rest.

I was kidding, I'm not running it. Though I did register a while back in case I wanted to easy run it. I wouldnt have gotten to defend my title either way since I moved up in age groups.

Phantom pains anyone? I had some today.

No phatom pains just real ones, I have decided this is some type of tendonitis or atypical plantar fasciitis, which I guess is better than a stress fracture, but it is really starting to be irritating.

Matt-
Are you taking any sort of light for beginning of the marathon? Do you know if the course is so dark we can't see or do people carry lights so cars can see them. Just wondering, is it for safety or do we really need one?

My big toe joint hurts but it did this b/f LR (I think the 20 milers throw it over the edge) and the LR marathon was fine.

I'm not taking a head lamp, only b/c I dont have one. I have a blinky light I may throw in the bag. I don't expect it to be so dark you cant see anything. I've done almost all my runs in the dark with and without the moon out and I've never had a problem with seeing the road. Unless your running at your 4:41 pace I don't think you'll have any problems.

I don't mind running in the dark either and figure there has to be a street light or something around. I don't know much about this course and didn't want to be the only one without a light or something. I don't even know if I still have my blinky light from this winter. Yeah, maybe I won't run at 4:41 for too long, I would hate to hit a pothole or something in the dark and hurt myself.

Kris, here's another example of a long stride runner with both feet off the ground, just so you don't feel like you have to be MCW fast to pull it off, I'm pretty sure Red does about a 20:00 min mile.

Yeah, I forgot about that pic! Z even got his hair blowing back and everything with his speed. I just want a picture that doesn't look like I am shuffling along, maybe I should try some superman sandals like Z's (can you imagine the blisters after 26.2 miles? ouch!).

I got my stuff packed up last night, hopefully i'm not forgetting anything that can't be replaced in Tupelo... decided to leave my assorted pack of animal print running thongs at home.

I think it is going to be warming up by the time I finish- oh well, makes for a better war story and sweatier and even more disgusting finishing picture. (have you noticed it is all about the picture with me?).

Well I hope you two had a great race. Can't wait to hear the report. As you know I didn't get to go run the race, my wife is in the hospital. Nothing too major, but it was complications from Kidney Stones. As much as I wanted to go and hearing her tell me on Friday to still go I just couldnt do it. I know it was the right decision. There will be MANY more marathons to come, maybe even the Arkansas Marathon in Benton now. Who knows, but I can't wait to hear about the race.

Hey Matt,

We missed you but you definitely made the right decision to stay home with your wife. We had a good time. Our motel was scary but it kind of provided some comic relief. The marathon was good, nice out and back with rolling hills but had no crowd support. I guess I knew that but didn't realize the difference it makes. It was humid but not too hot when we start, although it definitely heated up at the end.    We will probably see you at the AR 20K or Soaring Wings 1/2 marathon. Hope your wife is doing better.
