ShaneS429 says:Some background info:
I'm 18 years old. 6'0" tall and weight 135lbs. I have an extremely fast metabolism and cannot gain weight for the life of me. For the past month or two I have decided since I can't gain weight from eating, I should try to gain weight from muscle mass. I'd be happy to hit the 145-150lbs mark. I'm also on a bodybuilding website that helps track my lifting stats and body measurements. According to my measurements I have 9.5% body fat, which I read is equivalent to that of athletes.
The only problem is, I am no athlete at all. Back when I was in high school, I could barely run 1.5-2 laps around the track without having to stop and walk from being out of breath. I could do about 60-65 on the pacer test however (not sure if thats a good score or not). My resting heart rate is in the high 70s BPM.
Currently I have school and work at night, which leaves my mornings and early afternoons completely open. Fortunately, my backyard goes right into a small pond with a walking track around, which according to google maps, is exactly 1/3 mile per lap.
I'm currently waiting for some stuff to arrive in the mail (1G Ipod shuffle, running pants, pedometer) before I get started.
My question is, I plan to run every morning at about 7am Monday through Friday. And continue my weight training M-W-F, and give me weekends off from all workouts to rest.
My question now is, how long should I expect it to take for me to be able to run a solid mile (3 laps around the pond track) without having to stop to walk?
I have no doubt in my mind that I will stick to the Monday through Friday 7am runs, but what is a realistic goal to look for in being able to be able to run a mile without stopping? I have set a goal for the week of April 14th to be able to do this, giving me 2 weeks to build up to that.
I haven't ran at all for about a year since I was back in high school so I have no idea what my current abilities are. I'm assuming I can do one solid lap without stopping to walk, but then after that, the final 2 laps will be on and off running/walking.
Any ideas, suggestions, comments are appreciated.
Sorry for such a long post.
