The field can be any size but for this example we will say it is 50 miles.
On day 1 Runner A runs 26 miles and Runner B runs 1 mile.
On day 2 Runner A runs 27 miles and Runner B runs 2 Miles.
Because the field is 50 miles the Runner A has run a full lap of the field plus 3 miles on the second lap, Runner B has run 3 miles on his first lap.
At the end of the second day both runners are standing next to each other, even though Runner A is on his second lap of the field and Runner B is on her first.

Thanks Sareybabes, I was just testing who would notice the deliberate error. I have put the correct distances in now. ;-)
