Are the manually added runs counted towards the challenges? I ask because I just noticed that my profile currently shows 516km while the "Newbies runners - 2008" challenge only shows 494km. Since I started running in january the challenge should report all the kms I logged so far. Now, of all my runs only two were added manually (ipod low on battery - didn't bring it with me those times) for a total of 22km. You guessed it, that's the difference between My Profile and the Challenge mileage.

I was wondering if that's by design or if it is some kind of bug or - most likely - I am missing something.

Depends on the challenge. The challenge probably has a device limit imposed allowing only runs that were logged to count towards the challenge.
