Has anyone had any experience running whilst wearing a smog mask (like the ones cyclists wear)? Something like this: www.evanscycles.com/product.jsp?style=20039

Or are there any specifically designed for runners?

I'm considering getting one to wear whilst running through central London on my way back home.

I have never seen any one running or biking wearing one.

I wouldn't want to run in one.

I used one in London for my commute, but not on anything more strenuous as it does make breathing more difficult.

i tried using one whilst cycling in central london too, but as andrew said, it makes breathing quite a bit harder. it ended up in some drawer somewhere after just a few trials... can't imagine that i could run with one.

Thanks for the comments.
I did wonder if it was just going to make breathing too hard.
I'll just run from park to park, with the only real heavy traffic along the Embankment.

i think they can only filter dust anyway, so exhaust fumes would most likely still pass through those filters anyway...

I've run with a mask during the winter months for several years due to an annoying case of adult onset asthma. The first couple of times I felt like it was difficult to breath, but I eventually got used to it, and no longer have any problem. I recommend you buy a mask that does not lie flat against the mouth. Find one with a bit of a hollowed out space in front. I run at very high altitudes, where the air is quite thin. I still get plenty of oxygen. Just give yourself some adjustment time.
