Hello,
I'm fairly new at jogging as a sport. I have always been a bike fan and now that i want to make the switch in my training regime, i find it kinda hard. I'm using a heart rate monitor and i really can't find a good enough pace as i'm jogging, to keep my heart rate on normal levels. It seems that no matter how fast or slow i'm jogging, i just hit maximum heart rate throughout the run, therefore i get tired easily. Any tips? Will breathing exercises help? How about MORE warm up, or MORE streches.

Is it normal to keep a fast walking like pace (instead of running like- in terms of speed) during my workout?

p.s. i hope my syntax makes some sense   :p

Running is different that cycling. It's not streches or warm up - you must slow down. Check out the "Couch to 5K" program. That will do it for you! Running gets better with time and you will develop "different" fitness that will allow you to keep running and maintain a heart rate, well that's not going to make you explode! Welcome to the running world - it's a great community here! If you're into podcasts (and you should!) we have many great people doing podcasts!

Running works your body and cardiovascular system differently than biking. You are, in a sense, retraining your body to deal with these new stressors. Slow down during your training runs. Over the next few weeks, you will find it easier and easier to complete your training runs, enabling you either to go faster or longer. New runners will find their heart rates hitting the upper threshholds. Seasoned runners have to really work to get their heart rates to hit these same threshholds. Give it time; it will come. If you're looking for future reading on this, try "Heart Monitor Training for the Compleat Idiot" by John Parker. It's excellent!

Thank you for those advices! I'll slow down during my runs (even if it means that i'll be walking :p ) and i'll check those articles.

And i'll try to be patient and take it easy-ier (something i'm not familiar with )
