Any ideas I've had this for about 10 weeks now. When I get up I have to tip toe around on my left leg, as it feels like the achilles will snap if I stretch it by placing my foot flat on the floor. This pain eases after 5 mins till I can walk around as normal.
If at any time during the day I sit for 30 mins I have to repeat this exercise of tip toeing or hobbling.
Even when I have no pain I cannot run as this brings the achilles pain on worse....more tip toeing and hobbling.
The pain is from the edge of the ball of the heel and up the achilles.
I've tried using support and compression makes no difference.
Will I ever run again? If I was a horse would they shoot me? Any ideas what I can do would be appreciated I'm desperate...... I also look a fool at work hobbling around like quasimodo!!!!

After many years of pain-free running, I developed achilles pain which was much as you describe it. I tried ice, stretching and anything else I could think of, but still had to walk down the stairs in the morning in a crab-like kind of way, it was so sore. Then I went to a podiatrist who told me that I was an over-pronator, and that the pain was caused by my arches collapsing inwardly as I ran. She prescribed orthotic insoles for my running shoes, and I must say it was the best £140 I have ever spent - like a miracle - and pain-free running for the whole year since then. Hope this is helpful..

To be honest mate i would get down the doctors if it is causing this much of a problem in general life........It dosnt sound like it will just fix itself over time if its now been 10 weeks of pain and maybe you will cause lasting damage by just putting up with it,you never know it might be as smiler says and you could be up and galloping about in no time and no need for vet to put you down.....Good luck anyway and i hope there is an easy fix..

Thanks guys, I think the docs is in order.
I haven't run more than 100m in 10 weeks and it's killing me.
I'm a typical bloke when it comes to going to the docs..... unless I think its life threatening I won't bother.
