I recently started training for a half marathon. First one! Problem though....As I began running every day with one day rest I noticed bruising that was scattered, yet ran down the sides of my outer thighs and stopped above the knees. Will someone PLEASE tell me what is going on? I talked to my trainer whose been helping me but his stumped. He is suggesting that its the constant pounding thats breaking the blood vessels and capillaries. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Should I see a sports doctor?

Please see a doctor, this may be a result of a torn quadracep. I have had a quad injury and your symptoms sound similar. Mine included lots of pain.

Thats a concern I thought of but thats the weird thing, I havent had pain with this at all! I dont even realize I bruised until I get in the shower. Now Im checking and monitoring it often!

Strange ! maybe your personnal threshold to pain is very high, hence you don't feel the discomfort.

Never the less go see a doctor or nurse just to make sure a non treated injury can hamper you for very long....

We only have one body and no spare parts!

I started running 6 months ago, i bruise fairly easily.
i started getting the largest amounts of big purple bruises on my thighs only. they werent painful at all, but looked so disguting, at one point my thighs were almost entirely covered.
i have been to the doctor and had blood tests, they have all come back fine.
they are unexplained, its nice to see someone else has been experiencing this as well

Really really strange... Could someone post some pictures? The bruises are "dalmatian" or "leopard" like?

Well, this does sound strange. Gotta say I would echo the previous advice and get it checked out by a doc, just to be sure.

I have the same problem! I have bruises on my inner thighs and some on the outer thighs and yes, right down to my knees. I have been told I am in very good shape, so I do not know what to do about this. the doctor doesn't know either!!!! If anyone finds a remedy, please tell me as well!!!!

Well, its good to see I'm not alone. I noticed a thigh bruise about 2 weeks after completing my last marathon (6/1). I thought I might have done it at work or something. It went away. Just noticed another one on the back of the same thigh. It looks like I got hit with a line drive by a baseball. It did not show up until 3 weeks after the race. No pain or anything, maybe broken blood vessels?

I think so! All of mine have gone away. I find that the weight training helps reduce the occurence of the bruising. It might be just a coincidence, but it sure won't hurt to train the muscles a bit more!Maybe that could work for you too?
