Has anyone tried out the Vibram Five Fingers Shoes? www.vibramfivefingers.com

I saw these at the store and think they're really neat, but I'm wondering how I'd feel after running on concrete with them.

Thanks!

I think they would be cool to walk around in.

I saw a girl wearing them or something very like them on a concrete jogging trail a few weeks ago. She was wearing running gear but walking gingerly, as if her feet were hurting. The tender footed walk may have had nothing to do with the shoes but I think it would hurt your feet. They have no real support or cushion. They may be cool for running on the beach but there are none of those near my house.

I appreciate the depth of the soles of my shoes as I pull bits of glass, sharp rocks and nails out of them.

[Edit] And BTW, shouldn't they be called "Five Toed Shoes"?

The August edition of Runner's World UK had an article on these. It took the author some time, and a few blisters, to get used to these shoes. It sounded more like they were designed to run limited mileage in, strengthening your foot muscles and tendons, rather than to do long distance in.

I run in them. It's like running barefoot without having to work up big calluses on your feet. If you're interested in barefoot running they're worth looking in to. I have both the Sprints and KSO's. I run in the Sprints. I've heard that the elastic band on the Classics can cause some irritation from being too tight, but I haven't had problems with getting the fit right with the Sprints.

I bought the classics a month ago and wear them around when playing with the kids or running out to the store. I definitely won't wear them to run on concrete, though I may try them on the treadmill.

Hmmm, seem to be quite unsupportive for the ancles and knee-joints if you have to wear ortophedic inlays in your shoes... :(

I thought about getting these to run on the beach with so I don't have to worry about damaging my comfy road running shoes...

There is a review of the Vibrams in a recent Runner's World (with Adam Hall on the cover), the guy really seemed to like them.
