I figured it was time to start a Garmin forum here at RUNNER+ since (with any luck) I'll have support for it here at R+

Hooray! I keep waiting as patiently as I can for Garmin support. (I'm sure you never get tired of people asking when it will be here!)

What is the new Garmin device? When did it come out?

This is really great! I still cannot believe that Garmin will not have any type of data sync until the end of the year for the 405! I sure hope that someone writes a program to fill this void. Garmin is leaving a large percentage of people out of their potential sales numbers without Mac support for the 405.

Ditto, GGG. I was going to buy it but since it lacks support for the Mac I will get a Sportsband for now, my goal being running without wires, headphones, armsbands and all that jazz. I guess the 405 (or alternative) will be a thing of the next year.

Hey all, I've got the new 405, in part because I had read that Garmin connect would have mac support in May-08. Well, that's true, for the old products.

However, anyone with an Intel Mac can run Parallels or Fusion and Windows and still yank the data. Gamin connect is pretty basic right now, though. I'm just uploading the data there then manually entering runs here.

For example... it doesn't even give pace as min/mile, just mph.   I never think of my running in terms of mph. (to be fair they say they will be adding pace)

I've just got my all new 405. I've got Apple. I did know about the lack of support for mac but It didn't matter that much. I got it anyway. I sync it at work with a PC. It's beautiful. I like it. looking forward for R+ support

Hi all. I'm interested in buying the 405, but I want to know what the web reports look like: what kind of charts do you get? Can someone perhaps post a few screenshots?
Also is it possible to download all the pace, GPS and HR info locally to your PC so you can play with it manually? Cheers, Felix

mine as well

use Garmin training for desktop. Mine works just fine.

I love the automatic GPS mapping. Showing speed instead of pace is really stupid but Garmin promises to fix this pretty soon.

Laps section is very interesting. You can compare how you are doing from lap to lap.

In short, double thumbs up!

Hey all, here's mine from yesterday. I still need to do this, but if you haven't done so, you can set the auto lap feature (1 mile in my case). Also, online loading seems slow.

Take a look at the elevation chart. I live at about 5,600 ft, so I found the elevation to be useless as the chart goes from 0ft. to 6,000ft. It's basically a straight line. I'm looking for a place to send feedback but haven't found it. Obviously the chart should start at 5,000ft. and dynamically adjust for different locations. I'm very looking forward to being able to sync the data into Runner+

Also, does anyone see where you can look at weight data online?

I received yesterday my new 405. It looks great but I'm still struggling to automaticaly transfer the data to the Garmin website.
The transfer to the local Training Center works fine.

My problem is also described in this forum:
forums.motionbased.com/smf/index....f8b3&topic=8472.from1210186429;topicseen
(the only difference is that I'm running Vista)
Is there anybody else facing this issue?

Mihal. I am running XP, but the very first time I attempted to upload, I got a similar error. I re-ran install ant agent program and tried again. It solved my problem. I assumed it was a faulty installation the first time around.

Not great help, but letting you know my experience.

Good Luck.

Training Center is pretty decent for Windows but is occasionally flaky - just now took me three or four tries to get it to upload my last run on my 205. Good news for me is that my wife wants a Garmin - so thinking I can convince her to let me get the 305 now that it will be on sale, and hand her my gently used 205...

Have not tried the Mac software yet, still running Windows at home so using that machine to do the uploads as I've heard the Mac software is pretty limited.

Caution, I've heard the same info regarding the Mac side of GTC. I'm using Ascent for the Mac, I posted in another area of Garmin forum regarding it. Much niceer than GTC. You can check it out at montebellosoftware.com

If you click on the REPORTS option at the top of your Garmin Connect page and click the 'Group by Day on' on the left side, it shows you the pace in min/mile under the Avg Time column

I'm not to impressed with garmin connect as of yet, I found that the old website (motionbased.com) can upload the 405's data straight from the watch just like garmin connect, it loads quicker and has more features

Indeed. Garmin connect fails quite often to load the speed and the heart rate graphs and is rather limited in terms of analysis options.
Motionbased has a lot of cool features, the best one is the playback:

trail.motionbased.com/trail/player/5709889

The good news is that motionbased will become garmin connect by september this year.
The bad news is that they mentioned some features will be only available with a subscription.

I have to admit that although Garmin Connect isn't by any stretch of the imagination perfect I do prefer the interface, I always felt that MotionBased felt a little "dated".

Can't wait for the Runner+ integration, any further news Chris?

The Garmin Connect interface may look nice, but they have serious performance issues.   The site is super slow and it takes forever to pull up your running data.
