Nice review but I have to disagree with you comment about the 305 battery life, I have had mine go as long as 11.5 hours (see my run of 4/19) and I know of one runner who has closer to 14 so for 50 miles to 100k it will just about last, going beyond that...well with the price of them falling like it is you can afford to buy another one! Otherwise with the USB cradle you can at least charge it on the fly.

Well I did end up getting the 405-green w/HM. I must say that I had a hard time getting use to the watch and going from GPS to TRAING to MENU.
Trying to download the software was a pain. Im not that great with computers so it took me some time. I still cant download runs at home, have to use my computer at work.

I will say that all the info that you get with the 405 is great. Once I get use to this watch I will love it. Right now its baby steps

Hello. I am having trouble getting my software set-up. Chris, I may be having the issue that you mentioned of needing the ANT USB drivers for Windows- where do I get that? I downloaded the software from the Garmin page, but when I try to run it, when it gets to the point of telling me to insert the stick, and I do so, my PC locks up and I have to just reset it. I would greatly appreciate some help! Thanks.

Just ordered mine, even knowing that Mac support will be a while. I'm using Parallels and hope the experience will be as easy as the person using Fusion's was. Also checking out Ascent which may tide me over. Looking forward to trying this out. For me, gadgetry is a great motivator!

I did exactly the same thing.

I'm waiting for my XP disk to turn up & i'll try and run the software through bootcamp. Until then I'm using a computer at work ;-)

Ok I think this is a bug: I have set up 2 data information pages, showing different things like speed, distance, time, HR etc. Normally during the run i tap on the watch to toggle between the 2 pages. However this seems to only work when the HR belt is present, so if I go for a bike ride or do something else without the HR belt it will not let me toggle between pages, but just be stuck on the first. Can anyone explain/confirm?

paolokecorre, I don't know why they would support the Mac in Italy and not the US, so I'm going to have to say that their information is wrong--however to be sure, you should contact Garmin.

I have two data pages set up and have no issues toggling back and forth between them and I have not even paired my HR belt yet.

And yes, the 405 has normal time functions like a clock

wow...it appears that my 405 is dead!!
It ran out of battery during training and now it doesnt wake up, even after charging all night. Display is just empty. Maybe its faulty charger, Mihai could you bring yours in on Monday so I could try?

Have you tried charging it through the USB on your computer. It would should if the charger was at fault.

andrew, yes i had tried that on several computers and laptop - nothing happened, just blank screen. I thought maybe the clip is faulty.
BUT it is back alive now!! yesterday it was just lying on the table all day not connected to anything and suddenly it started bleeping about once every 10 seconds. When i checked it it showed the Garmin logo during the bleep and then went blank in between the bleeps. Then i connected to charger and it charged normally. It was at zero charge so the previous night on the charger & computer did nothing to it. Hope its a software bug that will be fixed and not hardware problem. By the way my software is at version 2.10

Hi all,
I am new to this forum so please forgive me if my question was answered already: Does anybody know if there is a longer wristband available for the Forerunner 405? I asked the Garmin service (Germany) but did no get an answer yet. Thanks in advance.

I liked it so much I bought a ForeRunner 50 as an "everyday" watch and keep the spare HR strap at work with my spare running kit for unplanned lunchtime runs

Best of all it was £32 (delivered) from Amazon, less than I was about to pay for a Timex watch.

had mine for a while now, just got a few niggles

the daily alarm tends to scream and wont stop till the 30 seconds is up, its a godawful noise and usually results in me shoving my arm under my pillows till it stops, it also freezes the watch so I have to do a reset to get it working again

if I am out mountain biking and am slow up the hills the auto pause (even though it still registers a slow pace) pauses and wont start again till I go faster. I have it set to when stopped so this shouldnt be happening.

The last one is if I go out for a long days mountain biking (2 hours +) it wont go back into powersave mode till I do a reset on it :/ which is a PITA. I plan to send these through to garmin to look into for their fireware upgrade.

Things I would like to see but havent found yet is for the data screen moving pace average (so it doesnt take in the times you are stopped and yakking to a friend) and moving speed average (for the same reason) as I dont trust the autopause enough right now to use it so it shows bloody slow averages.

Even if we can see it in the training centre program (or on here would be good) just as a measure of actual improvement.

Hi all - I'm new to this site. How can you post data from Garmin (thinking about getting the 405) to RunnerPlus? I already uploaded ny Nike+ data.

Separate question on the 405 - are the versions with and without the HRM essentially the same except for the add'l hardware of the HRM belt? ie. can you buy a HRM separately for the 'base' version?

Hi Jfred, I have bought a 405 and then decided that I may as well have it with the HRM rather than use my excellent Polar. So, I have bought the 405 with no HRM and then bought one afterwards (same model as for th 305) and it is up and running within minutes of the postman delivering it.

Yes, in other words, it is the same model just with or without the HRM which you can buy separately.

Chris has already answered other question re Runner Plus website, he is hoping to work in compatibility in the near future.

PS Welcome to the site, join a challenge and get running!
