PotatoHead's Jog Log:

C25K W6D1

Got the dreaded "workout stopped" message 4 times during the last 5-minute running segment. I restarted it immediately each time but the total distance is short by about 0.25 miles. Sometimes I hate that thing. Happened to a friend of mine over the weekend, and it shorted her 4 miles on a 10-mile run. That would be a serious bummer. Anyway, July weather has arrived with a vengeance -- hot and humid -- but no problems with the run itself. Actually felt very strong chugging through the heat.

Is this the gen 3 nano that is causing you problems?

Nano 2G. Usually Apple stuff and Nike stuff does what it's supposed to do. But they still have some bugs to work out in getting their stuff to work together.

LOL. Yes, everytime I moan about my legs hurting or not feeling well, my next run proves me a liar. Oh well, I enjoyed the run.

There can be problems with sweat on nanos (probably why they added a moisture indicator on the 3g) I've heard they can play up in neoprene holders because the sweat gets into them. If it's warm and dry a more open holder might help, I just put mine in my pocket if it's not raining and carry a zip lock bag incase it starts part way round. ;-)

I have never heard of such issues w/ a 2G. I have one and *knocks on wood* have never had the problem you describe. For the record, I sweat pretty well, and use the Nike nano armband. Do you think it is a moisture issue?

I use same equipment DP (nano 2G and Nike nano armband, and yes, my armband gets plenty moist after most workouts). I should probably pull the nano out right after the workout, but a lot of times it sits from my lunchtime run until I get home that evening to upload the data.

This has happened to me maybe 5 times out of a total of over 200 runs with the nano (I've reset my stats a couple times but that's a good guess). Hard to draw too many conclusions from that small sample size, plus moisture is one of those tricky things. I suspect a nano can get wet one day, and because the innards are pretty airtight, the moisture can work its way in there and not dry out right away, possibly causing trouble the next day. I've also wondered if power lines, invisible pet fences, etc. can mess with the wireless connection between the shoe device and the iPod device. Trying to think if I've gotten the "workout stopped" message while running through a park, away from power lines -- I can't remember.

I can say this for sure -- my ID card at work definitely makes the problem worse. This is one of those plastic cards with an embedded chip, and I have to swipe it through a card reader to gain access to my building -- so I have to take it with me when I go for a lunchtime run. A few times I put the card between my armband and my arm, and the iPod went nuts -- stopped the workout probably 10 times on three runs in a row. Now I just hold the card in my other hand, and the problem seemed to go away. Until yesterday.
